SESSION TWO

2A: TECHNOLOGY PLAYGROUND

Do you know about the STEM tools you have available to you through the CSCOE STEM library? Come experience ways that you can integrate robots, coding, 3Doodlers and more into your classroom through activities built with the classroom in mind. The STEM Playground is not a demo space where you will be taught how to use a tool. Rather it is a space where you will learn how to use the tool through participating in an activity that you can use in your classroom. This session is great for K-8 teachers as there are activities that span all grade levels.

2B: INTRODUCTION TO AI FOR ADMINISTRATORS

This session will introduce school administrators to AI and its benefits for educators and educational leadership. We will demystify generative AI and show real world examples of how AI is changing the landscape of education and is on the rise. Administrators will experience the benefits of AI such as streamlining administrative tasks, data driven decision making, and improved communication and feedback.​​​

2C: TRAUMA-INFORMED TEACHING PRACTICES

This session is for educators to better understand the influence of trauma on school behavior and achievement. Research demonstrates that when we understand the impact of trauma, both BIG and little traumas, we can better set up school environments and use teaching practices that allow all students to thrive. The work of Peter Levine, Laurie DeSautels, Bruce Perry, and other leaders in the field will be reviewed as it relates to school-aged children. Concrete teaching and behavior strategies will be discussed. Teachers and administrators will leave with a greater understanding of how trauma affects school performance, learning and behavior and what they can do to intervene.

2D: FROM CHALLENGES TO CHAMPIONS - EMPOWERING YOUR STUDENTS WITH ADHD

You'll become an assessment ace by learning practical skills for conducting insightful interviews to accurately assess student needs and develop targeted interventions. Additionally, you'll design winning strategies by exploring multi-faceted interventions that align with Catholic values and individual student needs.​​

2E: STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS - STRATEGIES FOR PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION

This training will meet the MDE mental health requirement for licensure. Participants learn the risk factors and warning signs of mental health challenges common among students, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, ADHD, as well as disruptive behaviors. Additionally, participants will learn to assess and report mental health concerns, strategies for intervention within the classroom, and self-care strategies for school professionals.​​​​​​​​

2F: BUILDING ENROLLMENT IN RURAL CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Discussing a child's unwanted behavior with parents can be challenging. It is crucial to recognize the importance of the child's relationship with their family and support the parents' emerging competencies. Reinforce the strengths, emerging skills, and positive interactions within the parent-child dynamic. Suggest strategies that help families integrate their children into their busy lives, teach necessary skills, and find joy in parenting.​​​​​​​​​

In this session, we will define “encounter” through the discussion of surface level and deep culture, bridges to home and school, and ways in which the celebration of faith, knowledge, language, and culture is a pathway to strengthening our Catholic schools. We will focus on building relationships and creating an environment that screams “you are all welcome here!” This session will give you practical steps to help you look at your school in a whole new way: physically, socially, and culturally.​​​​​​

2K: THE PASTOR-PRINCIPAL PARTNERSHIP

Successful leadership in a Catholic school requires the pastor and the principal to be a dynamic mission-focused team. When pastors and principals are an effective team, a school is primed to do great things, not only for the school community but for the entire parish. Building an effective pastor-principal team, however, takes work and intentionality. This can be a challenge when both the principal and pastor feel like their plates are filled to overflowing. This presentation will give pastors and principals an introduction to some practical tools and strategies they can use to build the dynamic pastor-principal team they need to advance the mission of their Catholic school.​​

This talk will delve into the what, why, and how of virtue education, offering a comprehensive overview of its principles and benefits. Hear from numerous educators who have successfully implemented virtue education in their classrooms, gaining confidence and finding it to be a valuable, rather than burdensome, addition. 2V: NUMERICAL LITERACY - HELP STUDENTS ACHIEVE MATH SUCCESS

More students are being diagnosed with Dyscalculia every year and teachers need strategies to address math disabilities. Come explore the neuroscience of math and learn effective teaching strategies to develop number sense. Using visual representation in a multisensory, systematic way, teachers will learn how to design instruction to meet the needs of students with math challenges. General education and math interventionists/coaches are encouraged to attend this session.​​​​​
